As a southern California company, we've got plenty of reasons to get involved in the sunglass display market. Another one, perhaps not immediately recognizable outside of the area, is that San Diego is home to many of the worlds leading golf equipment companies-- including major operations by Callaway, Titleist, and Taylor Made. So when one of the leading manufacturers of golf equipment came to us with a challenge of re-designing their current club organizer, we responded with an innovative custom golf display design.

A few problems our new display fixture for golf clubs (in this case an iron set, which is the 3 iron through pitching wedge club):

  1. Clubs in old fixture did not hang uniformly. This is challenging because the "loft" or angle on the all the clubs is different.
  2. Old arm not strong enough. The old arm was too flimsy when installed on the retailers wall, which was slatwall.
  3. Loose fitting molded pieces. The molded club holders (in this case molded from plastic) would need to be secured in firm and inexpensive way to the display to ensure a high perceived value.

After much thought and a lot of "putting around the office", our team of designers developed a solution that successfully addressed all the issues. Here's how we did it:

  1. First we virtually modeled all of the clubs into our 3D modeling software-- this allowed us to test many variations of plastic molds virtually while avoiding the costs of a real-life prototype. After a lot of trial and error, we came to a few designs of the display fixture that we thought would work, then...
  2. Rapid prototyping. Rather than making a costly and time consuming plastic mold, we were able to test many different variations of the design by a rapid 3D prototyping process. After 1 day or production we had full scale and fully functional samples to work with.
  3. To solve the fixture stability issues, we secured our molded pieces to a beefier and radius bent piece of sheet metal with hardware to ensure that they would be rock solid.
